Company Overview

Founded in 2004 by Mr. M. M. Kabeer, Managing Director and Founder, Oscar Cinema LLC is based in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi. The company initially acquired and refurbished "Club Cinema," a single-screen venue with over 800 seats, aiming to elevate the customer experience within the regional cinema industry.

Within Abu Dhabi Emirate, which hosts more than 120 screens operated by five major regional cinema operators, strategic initiatives were implemented to position Oscar Cinema as a significant industry presence. Starting in 2007, the company expanded steadily and now operates 22 screens, ranking third in terms of market share. Future expansion plans include adding seven more screens, which will account for approximately 35-40% of the emirate’s reported occupancy rates.

In 2015, Oscar Cinema extended its presence to Sharjah with a seven-screen facility, featuring a dedicated 7D screen for children and a Pearl Suite designed for luxury clientele. The company distinguishes itself as the only exhibitor in the UAE deploying the DOLBY QLi Sound System at Al Wahda Cinema's Audi-7 and offering DOLBY ATMOS 7.1 Sound system at Cinema 1 in Al Foah Mall, Al Ain, and at Cinema 1 in Sharjah. Audi 1 at Al Wahda also features this high-end audio technology.

Through strategic collaborations with regional distributors, Oscar Cinema ensures timely releases of new films across Hollywood, Bollywood, and major Asian languages. A dedicated team of over 180 customer-focused staff and ongoing technological upgrades support the delivery of high-quality services and advanced facilities, catering to diverse customer preferences.

The company's pipeline includes projects to establish a presence in Dubai with two developments comprising 21 screens expected to open by the end of 2018, thus expanding the company’s footprint across key GCC markets.

Professional Profile

Mr. M. M. Kabeer commenced his career in 1976 managing Al Shaab Cinema Theatre in Dubai. Over nearly three decades, he gained extensive experience overseeing various cinema formats across the GCC, including open-air theatres, multiplexes, and cinema halls of different capacities. Notable establishments managed include Strand Cinema, Galleria Cinema, and Metroplex—the first multiplex in the GCC—in Dubai; Al Ain Cinema, Oasis Cinema, and Al Jimi Cinema in Al Ain; Al Mariah Cinema in Abu Dhabi; and Star Cinema in Muscat, Oman.

In 2004, Mr. Kabeer founded Oscar Cinema LLC by acquiring and revitalizing Club Cinema in Al Ain with modern equipment and refurbished interiors—marking his entry into the UAE cinema industry as an independent operator.

The company formed a strategic partnership with Line Investment & Property, a subsidiary of Lulu Group, in 2007 to develop multiplexes within their projects across Abu Dhabi Emirate. To date, this partnership has resulted in four projects comprising a total of 21 screens. Currently operating across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Sharjah with 29 screens overall, Oscar Cinema plans to add another seven screens by mid-2017. Additionally, two forthcoming projects in Dubai will feature 21 screens and are scheduled to launch by late 2018.

Mr. Kabeer’s focus remains on leveraging four decades of expertise to deliver exceptional cinematic experiences and expanding cinema infrastructure throughout the GCC’s burgeoning markets.
